ECOsta Rica
ECOsta Rica Blog's idea started from the current debate around the issue of climate change.
It is a contemporary topic in the media, but we always hear the Western side of the story: how industrialised countries are failing to change their habits and how poor countries are sufferings from the effects of the climate crisis. But what we never hear is that some small countries have already started a big revolution and are already few steps ahead rich nations.

ECOsta Rica Blog wants to challenge the idea that wealthy countries have to be an example for the poorest nations in changing wrong environmental behaviours. This blog is aimed to all those people, especially from the Northern Hemisphere, interested in how to tackle the climate crisis and with the humility to learn from small developing countries.

ECOsta Rica Blog is divided in three parts:

BLOG - where I will be regularly publishing features with the purpose of informing other counties about Costa Rica and what the country is doing to tackle the climate crisis. In this section you can find out more about the politics, green policies and new goals of the country towards the environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS - this section is dedicated to all the projects, networks and organisations in Costa Rica which concretely do something for the environment. Here you can find interviews with organisers and coordinators in the form of multimedia (podcasts and videos).

MEDIA CUTTINGS - this section simply collects recent articles from national and international publications about the measures Costa Rica is taking to protect, maintain and fight for the planet.
why Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is a small nation situated between the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, which many people cannot even point on the map, but bigger nations have to take example from if we want to see a real change.
I aim to explore the progress that Costa Rica is making to tackle climate change mainly focusing on three goals set to be met in the next few years:
- Costa Rica aims to be the first PLASTIC-FREE nation in 2021;
- Costa Rica aims to produce 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY in 2021;
- Costa Rica aims to be CARBON NEUTRAL in 2025.
These topics will be discussed in the blog and in the podcasts. But there will be more about the progressive politics of Costa Rica, other green plans, Ecotourism and much more…

ECOsta Rica Blog wants to be a platform for all those people who are working hard for the environment in Costa Rica, such as organisers of environmental and volunteering projects and indigenous people, who wants to make their voices heard also outside their nation.

Presenting these topics I will try to find out WHY Costa Rica is acting so quickly compared to other nations. What was their starting point? Why are they aiming so high? What are their resources?
