RJCCCR (in English: Network for Costa Rican Youth against Climate Change) was created in November 2019 by climate activist Sara Cognuck as a feedback of the local council.
It is first network in the country exclusively aimed to young people. Today it counts more than one-hundred young members going out to the streets to fight against the climate crisis.
They are not only focusing on striking but they are also organising educational workshops and activities for children and local communities. They believe that real change comes from small steps and the youth has the power to make these steps real.

Mission
To create an organisation to work as a platform for connecting young people and taking action to tackle climate change as well as support certain decisions taken in different sectors of the society.

Vision
To position itself as the reference platform for the integration of the efforts among young people in Costa Rica, with high capacity of convocation based on the development of actions to contribute in the reduction of the impact and augmenting the recency against climate change.

"Being a woman activist adds some more difficulties, because this is usually a role taken by men here in Costa Rica. It is hard, but we are doing it."
Sofia is a 21-year-old Political Science student focusing on Environmental Politics.
She is one of RJCCCR coordinators and very passionate about fighting for the environment as she lives in one of the most vulnerable countries in the world, on the frontline of seeing how climate change is affecting the earth.
Since she was a child, Sofia has been taught to see climate change as a matter of human rights and that is what she
is fighting for.
